A well-known Mzansi musician and composer, Zanda Zakuza has been candid about her struggle with depression.

We frequently hear about our favorite celebrities’ mental health struggles brought on by the pressures they encounter in the entertainment industry. Zanda Zakuza talked candidly about moving in with her parents after leaving Johannesburg in a conversation with Zimoja. Says she

“This industry was getting too toxic for me, and I couldn’t take it anymore. It was important for me to retreat and work on my mental health.”

“I only come to Jozi when I have a gig-it’s a toxic place.”

She also promised to return in 2024 with new music.

“I have a lot of music that I will be dropping, and I might be joining a new record label.”

Zanda discussed depression with her followers on a live Instagram feed last year. Says she

“I had a little dabble in depression and anxiety. I feel I let one unfortunate incident last forever. I chose to wallow in my sadness longer than I needed to. It was one dead moment that needed to last a short while but went over a year.”

She continued,

“Sometimes it’s hard to pull yourself out of sadness… but we forget that the world continues with or without you. The world continued while I was sad about something I could not control. The world was happening to me.
